Data Sources & Methodology

Sport Fish Data

Current sport fish count data sourced directly from Alaska Department of Fish & Game's Sport Fish Division monitoring programs. These data represent actual fish counts conducted by ADF&G biologists and technicians at designated sport fishing monitoring stations.

Commercial Escapement Data

Commercial escapement monitoring data from Alaska Department of Fish & Game's Commercial Fisheries Division. These data track salmon escapement for commercial fishery management and represent counts from commercial fishing monitoring stations statewide.

SASAP Historical Data

Historical fish count data from the State of Alaska's Salmon and People (SASAP) project, spanning from 1921 to 2017. This comprehensive dataset provides valuable long-term trends and historical context for Alaska's salmon populations.

Monitoring Methodology

Fish counts are conducted using standardized protocols including weirs, sonar systems, and visual counting methods. Data is collected daily during the fishing season and represents the total number of fish passing through each monitoring station.

Data Integration

Current ADF&G data is updated regularly as new information becomes available. Historical SASAP data provides long-term context spanning nearly a century of fish count records across Alaska's watersheds.
