What are Year Patterns?
Year Patterns help you quickly select specific years based on mathematical patterns, species behavior, or data-driven analysis. These patterns make it easy to identify trends, cycles, and anomalies in fish count data.
๐ Standard Ranges
- This Year: Current year only
- Last Year: Previous year
- Last 3/5/10 Years: Recent trends for short to medium-term analysis
- All Years: Complete historical dataset
๐ Species Patterns (Data-Driven)
- Pink Salmon Years: Even-numbered years (pink salmon have a 2-year life cycle)
- King Salmon Years: Top 50% of years by total escapement count
- High Escapement Years: Top 25% of years by total count
- Low Escapement Years: Bottom 25% of years by total count
Note: These patterns analyze actual fish count data for the selected location and species.
๐ Utility Patterns (Mathematical)
- Every 5th Year: Selects years divisible by 5 (2025, 2020, 2015, etc.) for long-term cycle analysis
- All Odd Years: Years ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, 9
- All Even Years: Years ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, 8
- Decade Years: Years ending in 0 (2020, 2010, 2000, etc.) for decade-by-decade comparison
- Every 10th Year: Selects every 10th year from most recent for very long-term trend analysis
- Alternating Years: Every other year starting from most recent (2025, 2023, 2021, etc.)
๐ Record Years (Data-Driven)
- Record High Years: Years with the highest total escapement counts in the dataset
- Record Low Years: Years with the lowest total escapement counts in the dataset
Note: These patterns identify extreme years based on actual fish count data.
โฐ Run Timing
- Early Run Years: Years with peak runs in May-June
- Late Run Years: Years with peak runs in July-August
Note: Currently uses mathematical patterns; will be enhanced with actual run timing data.
How It Works
- Select a location and species from the controls above
- Click the "Year Patterns" dropdown menu
- Choose a pattern that matches your analysis needs
- The chart will automatically update to show only the selected years
- Your location and species selections remain unchanged
Generates up to 150 shades for all species
